How To Clean Makeup Brushes With Shampoo
If you wear makeup, you most likely use makeup brushes. There is a brush designed for everything, and they are all available in different sizes, shapes, colors, and even price ranges! But no matter what brushes you use, there is one thing in common: you need to clean them!
How often should makeup brushes be cleaned?
You should clean your makeup brushes often, ideally, after each use. But if you don’t have the time to wash your brushes every time, wash them at least 2 to 3 times a week. It refers to brushes you're using on a daily basis.
Just imagine the amount of disgusting bacteria, germs, fungi, or even bugs that sit inside your brushes, which could later be spread on your face and skin.
What to wash makeup brushes in?
It would be best to wash your brushes in a proper makeup brush cleaner or cleanser that is made specifically for this purpose. However, if you want to save some money, then there is a better and more affordable option: baby shampoo!
Baby shampoo is just perfect for washing all makeup brushes and you will get it at virtually any store or pharmacy. A good quality, natural, silicone-free baby shampoo is preferable but a regular one will do as well.
So here’s the way to clean your makeup brushes properly:
1. Wet your brush under warm running water. Make sure you always keep your brush facing downward. This will prevent the water from loosening the glue that is holding the bristles in place.
2. Squeeze a small, quarter-size amount of baby shampoo in the palm of your hand. The shampoo mixed with water will produce a gentle soap lather.
3. Carefully swirl the brush around under running water for around 30 seconds. You will see the makeup leftovers melting away almost instantly.
4. Finally, rinse the brush under warm water for another 30 seconds or so, until the water runs clear.
5. Repeat the process if necessary, until the brush is perfectly clean.
When you dry your makeup brush after washing, try to keep the bristles facing down as much as possible in order to avoid attracting bacteria. Pat the brush dry with a paper towel, and lay it flat to air dry overnight.
Make sure to dry your brush sideways or with its bristles downwards. The water needs to dry completely, otherwise, it will attract bacteria. You can roll up a small cloth and prop the brush at an angle, or if you prefer, you may also buy a drying rack specifically for your brushes.
Even though cleaning your makeup brushes may be another boring chore, you must remember that having them cleaned regularly will contribute to improving the health of your skin.
